My July Reviews - Part 2 (All of ToG)

 Part 1(without ToG)

Throne Of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

This was the series that started the ball rolling. This was the start of a rather deep rabbit hole, and one which I still haven't gotten out from. This is the one that got me reading fantasy again, and even though I might never reread this again (I couldn't go through that kind of heartbreaking rollercoaster again, no matter the happy ending).

5. Throne of Glass

Synopsis:

In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I just LOVED this book!!!! It had one of my favourite things: A badass female lead (who is also an ASSASSIN?!?!?!?! did Christmas come early?!?!?!)

The mystery kept me on my toes; I was guessing till well into the book, and the love triangle was just so entertaining

View Spoiler

The only problem is, when I start a good series, I read till the end of the series........so the next few days will, I think, be full of Sarah J. Maas' wonderful writing.

I don't know why I stopped reading fantasy. This book, I believe, has reignited my love for fantasy novels.

A wonderful read, with many more to follow, I hope.

6. Crown of Midnight

Can I just....THAT COVER IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

Synopsis:

"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

7. Heir of Fire

I hate my short reviews.

Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life-and her future-forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved it.........though I was rooting for Chaol.

Also, this was really, really long. Can't wait to read more!!!

8. Queen of Shadows

Synopsis:

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

9. Empire of Storms

Synopsis:

Kingdoms will collide.

In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what—and who—to sacrifice if she's to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart.

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book made me cry.........the ending was just devastating.......and not crying inside my head.....but real, wet tears crying.

I really hope the next book won't be boring since I know it has a different perspective.

Can't wait to read more.

10. Assassin's Blade

I read this one after the first five, which was a horrible mistake because I know I would have enjoyed QoS and EoS more if I'd read this first...

Synopsis:

Contains all five novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin's Guild, her allegiance is to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. In these action-packed novellas - together in one edition for the first time - Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and seeks to avenge the tyrannous. But she is acting against Arobynn's orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery. Will Celaena ever be truly free? Explore the dark underworld of this kick-ass heroine to find out.

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a complete trainwreck for me......not in the way the word is usually used.....but in the I know what's going to happen......mostly because I knew how it was going to end because for some godforsaken reason I decided that I should read this before The Tower Of Dawn.....since it seemed there was a lot more in this that I had not known......Now, though I am glad I did read this eventually...it makes a lot of things make a lot more sense......I still wish I hadn't read this since it was just devastating to keep seeing it happen again in real time because most of it I already knew from the first five books I had already read.

Now, I'll stop procrastinating and read The Tower Of Dawn, even though I'm a bit skeptical of the perspectives in it.

11. Tower of Dawn

Did I mention my disappointingly short reviews?

Synopsis:

Chaol Westfall and Nesryn Faliq have arrived in the shining city of Antica to forge an alliance with the Khagan of the Southern Continent, whose vast armies are Erilea's last hope. But they have also come to Antica for another purpose: to seek healing at the famed Torre Cesme for the wounds Chaol received in Rifthold.

After enduring unspeakable horrors as a child, Yrene Towers has no desire to help the young lord from Adarlan, let alone heal him. Yet she has sworn an oath to assist those in need—and will honor it. But Lord Westfall carries shadows from his own past, and Yrene soon comes to realize they could engulf them both.

In this sweeping parallel novel to the New York Times bestselling Empire of Storms, Chaol, Nesryn, and Yrene will have to draw on every scrap of their resilience if they wish to save their friends. But while they become entangled in the political webs of the khaganate, deep in the shadows of mighty mountains where warriors soar on legendary ruks, long-awaited answers slumber. Answers that might offer their world a chance at survival—or doom them all . . .

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh my god, I expected this to be so boring, but it is seriously an amazing book. Can't wait to read the next one!!!

12. Kingdom of Ash

This one made me cry. A Lot. And I still go back to the epilogue, and it still makes me cry.

Synopsis:

Aelin Galathynius has vowed to save her people ― but at a tremendous cost. Locked within an iron coffin by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin must draw upon her fiery will as she endures months of torture. The knowledge that yielding to Maeve will doom those she loves keeps her from breaking, but her resolve is unraveling with each passing day…

With Aelin captured, friends and allies are scattered to different fates. Some bonds will grow even deeper, while others will be severed forever. As destinies weave together at last, all must fight if Erilea is to have any hope of salvation.

Years in the making, Sarah J. Maas's New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series draws to an explosive conclusion as Aelin fights to save herself―and the promise of a better world.

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I cried three times when I read this book.

It was just heartbreakingly beautiful.

View Spoiler

I don't think I will ever read this series again. It was a journey, but one that should only be travelled once, at least that's what I feel for me. That is not to say I didn't love it, but more that I don't think I could bear to go through all of that emotional turmoil again, when I know how hard it's gonna get, and how long for the ending that brought me to tears.

I'm truly grateful that I got to discover this universe and that I got to live in it, for a few days at least. And that I find more books like this.

( If you can't tell, that ending put me in a really good, philosophical mood that is forcing me to contemplate the deep mysteries of the universe)

Remarks:

And that brings us to the end of my second month of GR! Of the 25 books I read, I reviewed 20. Which is pretty good, but unfortunately most of these are pretty short. I hope to reread these one day, but I'll most likely not...
